Cook over open flame

Food never tastes as good as when you are eating it outside. Bring something tasty to one of all the great campfire sites in Överkalix and cook your food over an open flame (to be on the safe side, bring some firewood of your own). Or why not pack a meal, bring something to sit on, and find a spot with a magical view, or maybe a beautiful glade in the forest, to enjoy your meal.

It is always a good idea to bring some appropriate tools when cooking over an open fire, like a gridiron or a simple skewer. Try boiling your coffee over an open flame too, as is the Nordic way. And while you are at it, why not try the special local delicatesse coffee cheese? You put a few pieces of the cheese in your cup, pour the hot coffee over them, let them melt a little, fish them out, eat them and enjoy a new dimension to your coffee.

Another classic Nordic thing to cook over an open flame is the pinnbröd (stick-bread). You make a simple dough from flour, water, salt, and a pinch of baking powder (optional), and bring it with you to the campfire site. Wrap a piece of dough around a stick or skewer, rotate it over the fire and when it’s done, enjoy it with a dollop of butter.

Recipe, pinnbröd (stick-bread)

2 dl flour

1 dl water

0,5 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon baking powder (optional)
